The same technology that’s used to make eerily realistic deepfake videos of celebrities in movies they’ve never starred in, some of them NSFW, can also be applied to adult content. In a presentation at the IEEE International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN), researchers from Brazil’s Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul showed how they trained generative adversarial networks (GANs) to automatically generate and contextually place bikinis on otherwise nude images. The thinking behind the research is that this adversarial approach could help automatically eliminate NSFW or brand unsafe content in a way that’s seamless, which, generally speaking, would be useful in many scenarios. But first, the four men who authored the paper might want to add some women to their team, some men to the datasets, and some beachwear beyond bikinis.
